Almadera’s compositions possess a beautiful simplicity that speaks directly to the heart. Drawing inspiration from acoustic instruments, the Copenhagen-based artist blends spoken word, nature’s sounds, her melodic vocals, and piano playing. Almadera is currently working on her debut album. Inspired by artists like Björk and Ella Fitzgerald, the music draws on elements from both alternative pop and jazz.
The name “Almadera” has a beautiful story behind it. The musical journey of Aleksandra, the woman behind Almadera, began in Spain, where she crossed paths with three other exceptionally talented female musicians and started playing together. Picking a stage name came easily when resonating on Aleksandra’s full name: Aleksandra Raczynska. With the sounds “Al” and “Ra”, out came the Spanish words “alma” and “madera”, which signifies “soul”, and “wood”.
Sometimes people lose themselves in problems of everyday life and do not have enough time to breathe and look at the world with their eyes as they did before. So those who wanted to see beauty around them and admire the smallest trifle. Almadera wants to give people a room to breathe and to encourage a sense of calmness.
Almadera’s music and aesthetic has an emotional and intuitive nature about itself. It’s meant to bring a sense of contemplation and soothing to the soul.
